Kiln Firing Services

The Potters Market offers an in-house kiln firing service for customer work.

Whether you need a bisque firing, earthenware glaze firing, stoneware oxidation firing, or stoneware reduction firing, we can help fire your work safely in our kilns.

How It Works

Simply bring your work into The Potters Market in a sturdy box.

Please make sure that items requiring different firings are packed in separate boxes. For example, bisque items should be kept separate from glaze items.

When you drop off your work, we will take your details and advise when you should call to check whether your firing has been completed.

Payment is made upon collection, as items are priced once they are unloaded from the kiln.

Please note: We do not contact customers when firings are complete. Customers are required to call us to check if their work is ready for collection.

Stoneware Glaze Firing — Reduction

Turnaround Time

Our average turnaround time is approximately 1.5 to 2 weeks.

This may be quicker or longer depending on our current workload, kiln availability, and the type of firing required.

Pricing

Firing is priced per item, per firing, based on the amount of space each item takes up in the kiln.

As a general guide:

  • An average coffee cup is roughly $3
  • A small dinner plate is roughly $6

Final pricing is confirmed once the work has been unloaded from the kiln.

Please note: Extra charges may apply if your work damages our kiln shelves, for example if glaze runs onto the shelf during firing.

Firing Disclaimer

All care is taken when handling and firing customer work; however, The Potters Market does not accept responsibility for items that crack, break, warp, blister, explode, stick to kiln shelves, change colour unexpectedly, or are otherwise damaged during the firing process.

Ceramic firing always carries some risk, as results can be affected by clay type, construction method, thickness, dryness, glaze application, materials used, and firing temperature.

By leaving work with us for firing, customers understand and accept that firing is done at their own risk.

Extra charges may apply if customer work damages our kiln shelves or kiln equipment, including but not limited to glaze runs, melted materials, or work sticking to shelves.
